HOW TO ASSIGN A MERIT BADGE COUNSELOR TO A SCOUT
To find a merit badge counselor, go to the troop page and use the Merit Badge Counselor menu. Search for a counselor and write their name down.
To set up a connection to an Merit Badge Counselor:
- Log into http://scoutbook.scouting.org
Click on the Scout in the unit roster
Click on the Scout’s advancement
Click on the badge to work on (if not listed, you may have to START the badge for the Scout)
Click on Invite Merit Badge Counselor
Click on ADD
Search on Full Name AND Member ID. also click on Include MBC Only
Click Search - Then click on the name, select Merit Badge Counselor and the badge(s) and click Invite.
When you do that the Scout will appear in their dashboard and when they click on the Scout they will see only the Scout’s name and the merit badge they are connected to the Scout to counsel.
When they click on the merit badge below the name, they will see the requirements for the badge. If they click on the requirements they can approve them.
When all the requirements are completed, the merit badge counselor can approve the badge.
After the merit badge counselor has approved the badge. Someone with leadership rights in the troop can then mark it leader approved (after the Scout has talked with the Scoutmaster at the completion of the merit badge process (or handed in the blue card.)

To Remove a Merit Badge Counselor
Click on the Scout
Click on the Scout’s connections
Click on the Merit Badge counselor’s name then scroll down and remove the check mark next to ‘merit badge counselor’
Then click on Update
Then you can click on the Scout’s advancement, the merit badge and invite a different counselor.
