How to Transfer Advancements from a Previous council

Transfer A Scout From Another Unit/Council

Scouts who are in another Unit/Council can be transferred from one Unit to another but the Admin for the receiving Unit must do this. They can transfer the Scout into the unit using the Transfer Tool in Scoutbook. If they do use the Transfer Tool in Scoutbook, they should do that prior to the new council registering the Scout. The Council must still process the transfer on their end as well. The system does not automatically transfer the Scout in ScoutNet or Akela between councils.

If it is done correctly, it should update the existing Scoutbook account with the new BSA number instead of creating a new, empty account.

The unit admin should follow these steps to do this:

1.  Go to unit Roster page in Scoutbook.
2.  Use the “Transfer In Scout” button to search for the Scout and add a new membership with your unit.
3.  Check the Scout’s Membership page to make sure the membership with new unit is position approved (green shield with checkmark) and also that district and council information are correct.
4.  Go to the Scout’s Edit Profile page and update information so that it matches youth application:

  • Scout’s full name (first, middle, and last)
  • date of birth
  • new address (especially city, state, and zip code)
  • district
  • council

5.  Turn in youth application to local council.
If everything matches up and Scout’s Membership with the new  unit is approved, then the Membership Update should work and override the BSA member number.

OR

Add it manually or to have the Council update their advancements on their end and then they should sync into Scoutbook automatically.
